Frank received a Ph.D. in Communications
Arts
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; an MA in Cinema Studies, at New
York University; and has taught film history and criticismon the
university level
for
over twenty five years. His
specialization is silent film history, and his doctoral dissertation
focused on the early life and films of Charlie Chaplin. He has
developed
two college courses on the art of Chaplin and Keaton, and has spoken on
their work to numerous groups and organizations in the United States
and
England, including the Museum of the Moving Image in London.
